One week after Southern politician extraordinaire Huey P. Long completed this novel about the election of his future self to the presidency, it went from being merely improbable to impossible when Long was assassinated on the steps of the Louisiana capital. It is a Depression era tale, in which Long expresses his frustration with Wall Street and declares that a radical grass roots initiative led by him would turn the country around. It is a sentiment very much in today’s news as well, but Governor Long took it an entirely different direction.
