[Signed by Ed Ruscha] Schwartz, Alexandra. Ed Ruscha’s Los Angeles. Second Printing. 2009. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Book is signed “Ed Ruscha” on the flyleaf.
This book of art criticism examines the unique association between Ed Ruscha and the city of Los Angeles. Few artists are identified as closely with the city they call home as is Ruscha. It makes sense, because the trajectory of his career aligns so well with the city’s. As Ruscha became known as the leading pop artist of the West Coast, Los Angeles became the center of popular culture. The book examines this connection, as well as Ruscha’s relationships with other Los Angeles-based artists, such as John Altoon, Ed Kienholz, Billy Al Bengston, and Dennis Hopper. Book is mostly text with occasional b & w illustration.
