[Signed with Original Drawing of a Soup Can]. Warhol, Andy. The Philosophy of Andy Warhol. Third Printing. 1975. Hardcover (no jacket) in very good condition—there is minor soiling to the covers. On the front cover, Warhol has drawn in a soup can and beneath it signed his name, “Andy Warhol.” Inside the pages, its is signed “AW” and also “Andy Warhol NY 81,” and “$ to Kathy [Kirsaner] Love.”
We’ve seen a few copies of this title in which Warhol drew in a soup can on an interior page, but this is the first in which he has done so on the book’s cover. As such, it represents a transformation of sorts. The Campbell’s soup can was an object that became a flat painting that in this copy is once again a three-dimensional object. The book is a transcript of Warhol’s conversations with Brigid Berlin and Bob Colacello. Brilliant.
