Beaton, Cecil. The Glass of Fashion. English Edition, Second Printing. 1954. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows mild staining to spine, a trace of fraying, and a minor repaired tear.
There is no more knowledgeable guide to early 20th Century fashion than Cecil Beaton, and in this witty, articulate book, he takes the reader on a whirlwind tour. He categorizes the fashion hierarchy into three castes—followers, leaders, and those who avoid active participation but based on their extraordinary taste, cannot help but be fashionable. This book is mostly about this latter category—Chanel and Schiaparelli (of course) but also more enigmatic figures, such as Madame Errazuriz (who was the first to discover Picasso). Includes dozens of pen & ink sketches, also by Beaton. This English Edition is of much higher quality than its American counterpart.
