Cooke, Alistair. Christmas Eve. First Edition. 1952. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—jacket shows mild fraying to spine ends and corners and as a small edge tear. Illustrations by Marc Simont.
A midcentury English holiday tradition was the Christmas Eve radio broadcast by Anglo-American journalist Alistair Cooke. In the each year’s program, he would tell a story pertaining to the celebration of Christmas in America. Though he claimed they were fact, they read suspiciously like fiction. One year involved a man in training to be a department store Santa. Another year detailed the plight of a Southern California family who had never experienced a white Christmas. The manuscripts for those stories were collected into this attractive illustrated book.
