[Signed by Albert Hadley] Lewis, Adam. Albert Hadley, The Story of America’s Preeminent Interior Designer. Third Printing. 2006. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Book is inscribed, “For Ken Hochner, with appreciation & all best wishes, Albert Hadley.” Foreword by Annette de la Renta.
Albert Hadley must have approved of how this monograph turned out. Like his design work, it is grand but also intimate. Large sections of the text are verbatim commentary from Hadley himself. He dishes on Eleanor Brown (his erstwhile employer) and Sister Parish (for whom he had great respect). The book also offers the inside story of his famous projects, including the much-heralded library for Brooke Astor, the Paleys’ apartment at 820 Fifth Avenue, and the Kennedy White House. Includes both color photos and Hadley’s design sketches.
