Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, My Dinner Party Book, Signed
Margaret, Duchess of Argyll. My Dinner Party Book. First Edition. 1985. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition.
Just ask Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., the Duchess of Argyll knew how to host a memorable party. Written by the number debutante from London’s 1931 Season, this book is both entertaining memoir and how-to guide. It contains many pages of photographs from parties Margaret gave and attended. One such party profiled is the splashy eightieth birthday dinner she hosted for J. Paul Getty. There also chapters on country house parties she gave at Inveraray (the Argyll caste in the Scottish Highlands) and the London soirees she threw that attracted café society types like Noel Coward and Elsa Maxwell.
“Any excuse to give a party is a good one. But giving a dinner party for visiting foreigners is one of the best. They add new blood and it inevitably stimulates conversation.”
--Margaret, Duchess of Argyll
