[Signed, Presentation]. Talley, André Leon. A.L.T., A Memoir. First Edition. 2003. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Book is inscribed, “For Mica and Ahmet [Ertegun], Love André.”
Though he writes “uncertainty is the one sure thing when you work in fashion,” a young Andre Leon Talley’s success was assured the moment he began volunteering for Diana Vreeland at the Costume Institute. As he assisted her in the set up for the Met’s exhibition on Hollywood costume design, she saw his potential straight away and helped with the introductions that began his impressive career. Book focuses on Talley’s salad days in the 1970s, with much on his mentor, Mrs. Vreeland. Mica Ertegun attended the Bergdorf’s book launch party, which is presumably where this copy was signed.
"I don't have time to do everything the way my grandmother and Mrs. Vreeland taught me, the way Mica Ertegun, Miuccia Prada, Lee Radziwill, and Anna Wintour do things even today."
--Andre Leon Talley
