[Signed; Third Party Gift Inscription by Lady Bird Johnson] Alsop, Susan Mary. To Marietta from Paris. Later Printing. 1975. Book is inscribed “Best wishes from Susan Mary Alsop, December 1975.” On that same page, it is also inscribed by Lady Bird Johnson, “For dear Trudye and Henry [Fowler], You’ll find many of the characters who crossed ‘our’ stage and their counterparts abroad—and I hope you’ll remember and enjoy, as I did, Love, Lady Bird.” [Henry Fowler was Treasury Secretary during the Lyndon Johnson Administration.]
These letters were written primarily to Susan Mary Alsop’s friend Marietta Tree during the fifteen years Alsop lived in Paris as wife to an attaché at the American embassy. Though he was a low level diplomat, her lineage and lively wit placed them at pinnacle of Parisian society.
