[Signed] Shaw, Charles G. New York—Oddly Enough. First Edition. 1939. Book is very good minus condition; dust jacket is in good condition—endpapers are heavily discolored but other pages are bright and clean, and jacket shows fraying and chipping. Book is inscribed, “To Jack and Olivia, with all my best from Charles, April 13, 1938.”
This book includes over one hundred photogravure plates depicting the oddities and idiosyncrasies of Manhattan that existed as late as the 1930s. They include the borough’s last farm (Tenth Avenue and 214th St.), New York’s narrowest house (once the residence of poet Edna St. Vincent Millay), a blacksmith in Murray Hill, the world’s smallest piece of real estate (a triangle that is roughly two feet on each side), etc. Rare in dust jacket.
