This book is collection of the best writing on surfing (beginning with Captain James Cook’s visit to the Hawaiian Islands in 1778). It is mostly text, but interspersed are full-page b & w photographic images. The writing runs the gamut: history, science, surfer biography, and travelogue. There is even an excerpt from Frederick Kohner’s 1957 novel Gidget. Contributors include James Michener, Jack London, Chuck King, and Bill Cleary. Would make a great holiday gift for a surfer.
