In her book Beauty, Sheri S. Tepper wrote, “The sidesaddle was designed to protect a maiden’s virginity, while risking the maiden’s neck. Rather much for rather little, I thought.” Nevertheless, there is something to be said for tradition, and this book, published by the wonderful Country Life, is lovely, with the quality one typically finds in pre-World War II English publishing. The author was a highly regarded English equestrian and horse trainer, and she covers all aspects of riding sidesaddle. Includes frequent b & w photographic illustration.
