Huxley, Elspeth. Murder on Safari. Fifth Edition. 1938. Book is in very good minus condition; dust jacket is in good plus condition—endpapers are discolored, and jacket shows light fraying, particularly to the spine ends.
Like Karen Blixen, Elspeth Huxley (cousin by marriage to Aldous Huxley) lived on a coffee plantation in Africa. She wrote plenty of serious books on the Dark Continent. This mystery was light reading by comparison but was well received. Moreover, it is a wonderful example of 1930s era dust jacket illustration. The plot is an offshoot of the English drawing room mystery, but with the action occurring in colonial-style safari tents rather than in a country house.
