Deghy, Guy. Noble and Manly, The History of the National Sporting Club. First Edition 1956. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows a few small tears and edgewear.

When he was not in court sparring with Oscar Wilde, the Marquess of Queensberry was in the boxing ring. It is his famous rules for the sport that the National Sporting Club used to make boxing an acceptable pastime for gentlemen. This well-written and attractive book is history of that club and of Victorian and Edwardian era boxing. Focus is on the sport’s colorful social history and elegant past.
