It is no coincidence that the cover of this book was by Ralph Barton, the famed Condé Nast illustrator. He was also the artist for Gentleman Prefer Blondes, and the two Jazz Age novels are not so far apart in tone. This book is from the perspective of a young man in society who falls in love impulsively and habitually. It does not help matters that he foolishly says exactly what he means. Only when he meets a woman who believes him to be a chronic liar is he not foiled by own his words.
