Beaton, Cecil. Cecil Beaton’s Scrapbook. First American Edition. 1937. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in good minus condition. This is a beautiful copy. The dust jacket is bright and well-preserved with only a few small chips to the back cover, but the jacket spine is missing and has been replaced with a facsimile spine that blends quite well under Mylar.
Books, like apartment buildings, can easily be classified as either pre or post-war. Midcentury austerity would never have permitted a book as lavish as this, Beaton’s second. Filled with his photos and drawings, it travels the world, from London drawing rooms to New York fashion shoots to Hollywood film studios. It is a magical blend of text, b & w photographs, and color illustration that make the extraordinary 1930s come alive once again.
