This is a prequel of sorts to Ivana Lowell’s fascinating 2011 memoir, Why Not Say What Happened? It is a biography of the bohemian, globetrotting grandmother Ivana only a decade ago learned she had. The author, the former Marchioness of Bath, was peripherally in Tree’s circle, and had no difficulty convincing Tree’s friends and family to talk. With cameos by Diana Cooper (with whom Tree co-starred in Max Reinhardt’s The Miracle), Nancy Cunard (a childhood friend), Aldous Huxley, and many others.
