[Cecil Beaton Dust Jacket] Pope-Hennessy. West Indian Summer. First Edition, 1943. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows fraying and small chips to the upper and lower spine.
This book on the British West Indies was an early collaboration with Cecil Beaton who would become a lifelong friend. It was inspired by a summer the young author spent working as aide-de-camp for the Governor of Trinidad. In retrospect, it is an ode to a time when tourism had not yet overtaken the identity of what was then a remote colonial outpost. In addition to the text, there are forty illustrations (only cover is by Beaton).
