Hicks, David. David Hicks on Living—with Taste. First American Edition. 1968. Book is in very condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket spine shows small tears, and white portion of jacket shows mild discoloration.
This was the second design primer written by the innovative English decorator who cleverly mixed the traditional and the contemporary. His premise for this book endures today. It is not the value of the objects in a room that show taste and style. Rather, it is the selection and the way they are put together. By way of support, Hicks offers examples of his best work, describing them in detail, room-by-room, subject-by-subject. Book includes many illustrations, hundreds in b & w and also forty color plates.
“Good taste is not expensive; often the more expensive of two alternatives is less acceptable to those who are visually aware—people with taste.”
