Hulburd, David. H Is for Heroin, A Teen-Age Narcotic Tells Her Story. First Edition. 1952. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows mild soiling and a few tiny tears.
An erstwhile Time and Life news bureau chief relates the true story of a young woman, living the California Dream in a Los Angeles-adjacent beach community who becomes addicted to heroin. The dust jacket is intriguing. Is it early Pop Art? Is it camp? The book, however, is not a cousin of Reefer Madness. It takes a less scintillating approach, as it answers the question of how a wholesome teenage girl burnt out her youth “with a spoon, a medicine dropper, and a cap of heroin.”
