This is the story of the celebrated English debutante of the 1930s who was first the wife of the social American golfer and Duke of Windsor friend Charles Sweeney. [Yes, she was the superlative Mrs. Sweeney in Cole Porter’s "You’re the Top."] She then married the Duke of Argyll, and this book offers her adaptation of the events leading up to their destructive divorce, which generated as much press as her illustrious début had three decades earlier. The glamorous illustration depicted on the dust jacket cover is by midcentury Vogue fashion illustrator René Bouché.
“Always a poodle, only a poodle! That, and three strands of pearls! Together they are absolutely the essential things in life.”
