Beaton, Cecil. The Face of the World, An International Scrapbook of People and Places. First Edition. 1957. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—pages show occasional minor spots of foxing, and there is a repaired tear to the upper left front cover of the jacket.
This attractive book falls just short of the lavish production quality of Cecil Beaton’s Scrapbook, and it is something of a sequel to that 1930s masterpiece. Like Scrapbook, it showcases a wide range of Beaton’s talents—photography, fashion illustration, reporting, costume design, etc. It lacks some of the unbridled enthusiasm of Scrapbook, but in its place is the perspective of a confident man of the world. It includes many pages of b &w plates, accompanied by the reportage at which Beaton also excelled.
