Portrait of New York [Ex Libris Anthony Reid]
[Ex Libris Anthony Reid] Beaton, Cecil. Portrait of New York. Revised 1948 Edition. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition—there is mild fraying to the upper spine. This copy is from the library of noted book collector and poet Anthony Reid.
This is the Revised Edition of Cecil Beaton’s New York, first published in 1938. Both have different but equally marvelous dust jacket illustrations by Beaton of the Manhattan skyline. This is a study of midcentury New York with text, b & w photographs, and also pen & ink line drawings. Beaton frequently relates New York to his home city, London, contrasting the vertiginous construction of Manhattan with the quaint streets and squares of London. This updated edition takes into account how World War II changed the city.
"Few Americans realize the romance and glamour which they possess in the eyes of their English visitors."
--Cecil Beaton
