Lenning, Arthur. The Count, The Life and Films of Bela “Dracula” Lugosi. First Edition. 1974. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—previous owner’s name written on the flyleaf, and jacket shows mild fraying.
Filled with images, many never published prior to this book, this is the definitive biography on Hollywood’s greatest Dracula, Bela Lugosi. Lugosi actually originated the part on Broadway in 1927, but the play and his performance were so good that Universal Studios adapted it to be one of the first horror talkies. With his dark good looks and Hungarian heritage (Lugosi was actually born in Transylvania, then part of Hungary), Lugosi’s interpretation of the part proved memorably chilling to the audience, so much so that he was forever typecast in horror, as this book notes.
“Not only was Lugosi’s accent unique, so was his method of delivery. Probably no actor has used more pauses per line—and to greater effect.”
