Lincoln, Joseph C. Christmas Days, A Cape Cod Story. First Edition. 1938. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—there is a 3rd party Yuletide gift inscription dated 1939, and jacket shows a 1/4-inch chip to the upper spine and minor edge tears. Illustrated by Harold Brett.
One of the main attractions of this Yuletide-themed book is the marvelous wraparound dust jacket. It is evocative of Currier and Ives, which is appropriate, because the plot takes place in 19th Century New England—the Currier and Ives era. The title is a play on words: the protagonists are the seafaring Day family and the action occurs over three Christmas Days from the 1850s to the 1870s. During that time, two brothers become adults and come to recognize that family legend is actually fact—Christmas Day is a day of good fortune for their clan.
“Maybe Grandpa’ll give you a snow shovel for Christmas, if you asked him. If he gives me one you can have it and welcome.”
