[Signed by Baron Philippe de Rothschild] Rothschild, Philippine de. Mouton Rothschild, Paintings for the Labels. Softcover. 1983. Book is in very good condition. Book is inscribed on the title page, “To Eva . . . and David! Philippe de Rothschild.” Foreword by Baron Philippe de Rothschild.
The story behind Mouton Rothschild and its unique wine labels begins in 1924 when the winery defied Bordeaux custom and begin bottling wines themselves, instead of shipping its product in barrels to wine merchants. Thus, began the process of having artist friends of the Rothschilds design the labels. This was the book for an exhibition of the accumulated artwork, which featured designs by Warhol, Picasso, Dali, Chagall, Braque, Kandinsky, and many others.
“A poet, a man of the theater and a lifelong friend of the great figures in the arts, Baron Philippe has always been conscious of the relationship between wine and the creative imagination.”
