The Missouri Traveler Cookbook
Hosford, Mary. The Missouri Traveler Cookbook. First Edition. 1958. Book and dust jacket are both in very good minus condition—pages have browned with age, and jacket has a few tiny chips and light fraying. Foreword by Max Lief.
The author of this book starred in the Warner Brothers film The Missouri Traveler (hence, the name of the book). She was actually from Missouri, however, and most of the recipes originate in that state. It is a unique cookbook though, because four or five pages of memoir typically precede each recipe. Mary Hosford (the author) was never heard from again, because soon after publication, she divorced her husband and wed Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney. Today she is known as Marylou Whitney.
“It isn’t the coffee that keeps some people awake. It’s the price.”
--Mary Hosford (a.ka. Marylou Whitney)
