Around the World and Other Places, Signed by Ilka Chase
[Signed] Chase, Ilka. Around the World and Other Places. First Edition. 1970. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in very good minus condition—jacket shows chipping and taped repairs. Book is amusingly inscribed by Chase, “For Grace and Geoff, Around and around and around we go and where it will ever end who to know? Much love, Ilka and Norton, May 1970.”
When Ilka Chase advised her friend, an executive at Pan Am, on the specifics of her upcoming epic journey, the friend replied, “I never heard of such a thing and I’m in the business. That’s a terrible trip. I mean long. It will kill you.” It didn’t—maybe because Chase is nothing if not game: her lively curiosity is matched only by a marvelous sense of humor. Both come across, as she recounts her journey through the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
“The next morning we left Hong Kong. We had been there for six full days which I feel is the very least one should spend."
