Reflections in a Silver Spoon, Signed by Paul Mellon
[Signed] Mellon, Paul. Reflections in a Silver Spoon, A Memoir. First Edition. 1991. Book and dust jacket are both in very good minus condition—front hinge has split but all pages intact, and jacket shows a repaired tear to the back flap. Book is signed “Paul Mellon” on the title page. Previous owner’s name written in—“Millicent W. West, P.O.B. 236, Upperville, VA 20185.”
The tongue-in-cheek title of this memoir shows Paul Mellon did not take himself or his legacy too seriously. As the billionaire son of legendary financier Andrew Mellon, he had the luxury to pursue his passions, which, as he relates here, he did with great relish. There was not a major promotional tour; signed copies are uncommon. The previous owner of this copy was connected to Mellon’s wife Bunny via the Virginia Garden Association.
“I’m sure that I wouldn’t enjoy being down and out, but it is true that some of life’s pleasures do not have a great deal to do with money.”
--Paul Mellon
