Reb, Mart. Lady Loverly’s Chatter. First Edition. 1945. Book and dust jacket are both in very good condition. Designs and decorations by Fritz Willis.
This hand-sized novella is obviously a play on words: a riff on D.H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterly’s Lover. How extraordinary that in 1945, when this book was published, its inspiration was still banned by United States censors. The heroine, Lady Loverly, is sitting out World War II in San Francisco where she attracts the attentions of a soldier on leave, and in whom she confesses her most intimate secrets.
“One reaches an age when one’s courage becomes audacity, perhaps.”
